Arm Coordination

Arm Coordination

Bowlers will push their run up speed as fast as they can go. They will also learn how to separate their arms effectively to execute their bowling action with more power and accuracy gained from their front arm

Activity 1:

Bowlers Warm Up

5 mins

Method:

Teaching Points:

Equipment:

2 Ball Arm Separation Drill

Activity 2:

10 mins

Method:

The focus is on getting your arms synchronised into a straight line as you start to rotate them into your delivery.

The ball in the non-bowling hand is used to help your brain to consciously ‘feel’ what that arm is doing in your delivery.

Teaching Points:

  • Try to create as much distance between the ball in each hand as you can as you raise your front arm in your action. The bowling hand should be as far away from the non bowling hand as possible

  • Your front arm should reach high and straight, meaning the bowling arm should be low and straight

Equipment:

  • Cricket Ball

  • Soft Ball

Activity 4:

Target Bowling

10 mins

Method:

Place some target cones down on the wicket where you would like to practice landing the ball.

It is useful using something like cones which stand out.

You can either place the target on the specific area, such as a small square on a good length around off stump. Or you can create multiple targets and vary the areas that you are going to bowl at.

Teaching Points:

  • Focus on the area that you are going to bowl at as you run up
  • Make the focus point as small as you can make it - if you have 10 cones placed on a good length, focus on the hole in the middle of one cone in particular in the middle of that target. If you focus on a smaller target, you are more likely to hit the larger overall target - if your focus is vague, you're more likely to miss
  • Try to keep your eyes locked on that target throughout your action

Equipment:

Cricket Balls, Cones, Cricket Stumps
