Activity 1:

15 mins

Method:

Teaching Points:

Equipment:

1 v 1 Beat the Defender - Feint & Shoot

Activity 2:

15 mins

Method:

  1. Set up a triangle of cones on the edge of the box

  2. There should be a point of the triangle (cone) pointing away from the goal, this is where the attacker and defender start

  3. The other two points of the triangle (cones) are to the left and right of this starting cone, they should be around 4m apart and have a football placed next to each of them - on the outside of the triangle.

  4. The attacker starts outside the triangle on the starting cone opposite the defender who starts inside the triangle next to the starting cone

  5. The attacker is aiming to score one goal and can score it with either of the two balls

  6. In order to do so, they have to try and deceive the defender, get them off balance and then strike when they have created enough space to do so.

  7. Swap roles and repeat

Teaching Points:

Attacker

  • Try to manouvre the defender so that they are off balance or in a poor body position to be able to defend a ball

  • The moment you recognise an opportunity to be able to get to a ball, take it

  • Use fast feet, shoulder drops, eyes to deceive the defender

Defender

  • Mirror the attackers movements, stay close to them staying between the attacker and the goal, not the necessarily the ball

  • Stay in a low position (bend knees) and use a sidestep so that you can move side to side easily

  • Avoid having your back turned to either of the balls at any time, as this will be difficult to change direction

  • Cones

  • Balls
