Traitors

Traitors

Analysing other players performances

Being accountable for your own performance

Activity 1:

Traitors Cricket

2 Hours

Method:

  1. Select two teams for a match as normal
  2. Pick traitors for each team - start with 2 or 3 per team (if playing 8-11 a-side
  3. Play 3 ball overs, with each team facing 6 overs in total per innings - bat in pairs for 2 overs per pair (so 3 pairs bat per innings)
  4. A banishment takes place after each change over in innings (6 overs)
  5. Play normal indoor rules - 1 run for a wall hit, 2 runs for a normal run + boundary for the back wall (-6 runs for a wicket)
  6. At the banishment, each team has to vote (1 vote per player) for the traitor in the team.
  7. If you correctly banish a traitor - the traitor moves to the other team and your team wins 12 runs
  8. If you banish a 'faithful' - the faithful joins the opposition and your team loses 12 runs
  9. Then play the next innings.
  10. The coach can recruit more traitors during the game if they want to by tapping them on the shoulder during the game
  11. At the end of the match (you can decide how long you want oto play or how many innings you want to play) each team has the opportunity to take up to 2 more votes to try to remove any remaining traitors from their team. They don't have to use the votes if they are happy with everyone left being a faithful!
  12. If you vote off a faithful at this time, the team loses 25 runs. If you vote off a traitor you gain 25 runs. You lose 25 runs for any traitor remaining in your team

Teaching Points:

  • Observe - be aware of what is happening in the game. Look out for suspicious patterns of performance.
  • Accountability - you need to be accountable for your own performance. Everything you do is being scrutinised by your teammates (whether you are a traitor or not) and you will be voted off the team if you look like you are being careless!
