Teaching Points:
Equipment:
Pressing in Lanes - Split the Defenders
Activity 2:
30 mins
Method:
Set up your pitch with 4 lanes (or more/less depending on group size)
You'll need 3 teams, who each have a player in each lane
1 team start on one side of the pitch as a possession team, with another team on the other side also a possession team
The other team are in the middle as defenders
Players cannot leave their lane
The aim of the possession teams is to work to make passes from one side of the pitch to the other splitting the defensive line
If the defenders make a tackle/interception, they swap with the team that lost the ball
Teaching Points:
Pass the ball quickly and look for gaps / opportunities to get a pass through the defensive line
Body position of receiving players should be open so that they can look to move the ball on quickly
Move off the ball to create opportunities for the passer
Defenders should recognise when it is their responsibility to press (it's in your lane) and when it their turn to cover (close gaps where they can by using the depth of the lane)
