Activity 1
Cross the Swamp
Coach
Pete
Time
15 mins
Skills:
Dribbling, Warm Up
This is a great warm up drill to gradually increase the difficulty of dribbling
The aim is to create a bit of a traffic jam in the middle of the area in order to challenge the players to dribble their way through, keeping their ball under control
The area should be a square. On each edge of the square their should be 2 cones. These cones should be matched up with the cones on the opposite side in terms of colour - ie a blue opposite a blue, red opposite a red etc.
This means there are 8 queues, each of them partnered with the queue opposite.
Players at the front of each queue, dribble across the area to the queue at the opposite side and give their ball to the player at the front of the queue who then does the same.
You can begin to make this more challenging by adding another ball to each queue, or you could change which queues they are paired with, meaning they go diagonally, producing tighter traffic in the middle.
You could add tacklers in the middle. If you get tackled, you have to swap and become a tackler and the tackler becomes a dribbler
Activity 2
King/Queen of the Ring
Coach
Pete
Time
15 mins
Skills:
Dribbling, Warm Up
Mark out an area 20m x 20m and give every player a ball.
The aim is to keep your ball in the area for as long as possible. If you are the last person to have your ball in the area, you are the winner (king/queen)
During the game, players can tackle other players by trying to knock their ball out while keeping their own ball in the area.
