Activity 2

Caught and Bowled - Bowling Drill
Coach
Redditch CC
Time
15 min slots

Skills:

Bowling, Fast Bowling, Spin Bowling, Catching, Caught and Bowled, Fielding, Seam Bowling, Swing Bowling

Not often practiced but a frequent occurrence in a game of cricket.  Take the time to practice catching from your own bowling.

It’s a very different skill to fielding in other positions and will massively help your own wicket tally!

After you bowl, get yourself set into a good catching position and always expect that the ball may come back at you. We have used a tennis ball and tennis racket for the return catch as we are working with younger players but you could use a hardball if you wish.

We prefer to strike the ball back with a bat or a racket as it creates that extra bit of realism.

Activity 3

Backward Ladder Batting
Coach
Pete Alexander
Time
15 min slots

Skills:

Batting, Back Foot, Back Foot Defense, Back Foot Drive

This drill is aimed at sharpening up your footwork for the back foot defense and back foot drive.

As the ball is fed, take your back foot back into the next rung of the ladder behind you and then bring your front foot back into the same rung as you contact the ball with a drive or defense.

Repeat this process until the end of the ladder or you run out of balls

Activity 4

Just a straight forward net session.

The batters bat and the bowlers bowl.

Figure out the amount of time that each batter should bat for.

Batters can bat alone or with a partner. Bowlers can bowl alternate deliveries or can bowl a set number of balls in a row (eg. an over). Batters in pairs can face a set number of deliveries (3 or 4) before rotating or rotate when they hit the ball into a target.
